MUNICH, Germany – Despite more sense of gloom for Malaysian football as our national under-23 team suffered another loss in the 2015 SEA Games, there was actually a sliver of silver lining that went unnoticed.
On Wednesday, the Malaysian under-13 team went head-to-head with the under-13 team of German champions Bayern Munich and emerged victorious.
In the game that was played at the Sabener Strasse arena, our local youngsters won the game 2-1 with Firdaus Ramli scoring on 31 minutes and Asman Asrul on 53 minutes.
Despite winning the match, Malaysia wasted a handful of chances in front of goal, denying them a bigger win.
At this time not much is known about one of the goal scorers – Firdaus Ramli. But many might find it amusing that his surname is Ramli – the name of the famous fictional football player in local commercials and the inspirational reality football talent show “Mencari Ramli”.
The win against one of the biggest clubs in world football just proves, that there just might be hope for Harimau Malaya in the future, and considering our current situation, it couldn't have come at a more better time!
