KOTA TINGGI: A policeman is facing the death penalty after being charged with killing a divorcee here.
Kpl Muhammad Faizal Salim, 38, was charged in the magistrate’s court yesterday with killing Nik Norzielawati Akmar Afandi, 35, at the Taman Rekreasi Hutan Bandar Bukit Cantik here between 11pm on April 12 and 12.30am the next day.
The accused, who has been attached to the Mersing district police headquarters since 2011, is accused of killing Nik Norzielawati after attacking and hitting her with a crash helmet.
He then brought the unconscious woman to the Mersing Hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival due to severe head injuries.
Kpl Muhammad Faizal was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence.
No plea was recorded and the accused just nodded his head after the charge was read out to him in front of magistrate Mazana Sinin.
