KUALA LUMPUR: Klang Valley bus commuters will be getting a new ride soon, as Rapid KL is set to introduce a double-decker bus service next month.
The double-decker buses will be serving the high capacity routes around the Klang Valley, especially from Cheras and Shah Alam to the capital city as well as the inner routes in the city centre.
Prasarana Malaysia Berhad group managing director Azmi Abdul Aziz told theSun, Rapid KL double-decker buses will play a significant catering role for higher ridership around the Klang Valley.
“Rapid KL is committed to increasing the number of public transport users, and double-decker buses will specifically cater for more passenger loading,” said Azmi.
The 4.2-metre high, 2.55-metre wide body and 12-metre length double-decker bus, can transport up to 125 passengers (including standees) and provides 25-seats on the lower deck and 53 seats on the upper deck.
It is learned that for the past 14 months, Rapid KL has been focusing on the acclimatisation process for the 40 double-decker UK-made buses, and training the drivers at the Rapid Bus Academy in Cheras Selatan.
The environment-friendly Enviro500 low-floor double-decker, runs on a low emission 325 horsepower Euro4 engine and is equipped with safety and electronic features such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Anti Slip Regulation (ASR) and power steering.
theSun understands that the double-decker's launching in May, will be officiated by KL Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib.
