SHAH ALAM: A jewellery company manager left a sling bag with RM1.23mil in cash in his car as he nipped into a petrol station store in Kelana Jaya to get a drink. When he returned, the bag was missing.
Two days later, four Indonesian men were picked up. One had RM20,000 on him.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said the 43-year-old manager withdrew the large sum from a bank in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, on April 16 for business purposes. He then added RM30,000 of his own money into the bag.
“He then went to a petrol station in Kelana Jaya to buy a drink at the mart. He left his sling bag on the passenger seat of his car,” SAC Mohd Adnan told reporters at the Selangor police headquarters yesterday.
“While he was in the mart, four suspects broke his car window and grabbed the bag,” he said.
The manager then lodged a report and police tracked down the four Indonesian men.
“We arrested two of them in Batu Caves and another two in Sentul on Saturday,” said SAC Mohd Adnan.
“In the Batu Caves arrest, we found RM20,000 in one of the guys’ pants,” he added.
Officers confiscated the cash and three Proton Wira cars used by the gang in their robberies.
An Indonesian woman, who had helped the suspects wire RM53,000 of the stolen money to families and accomplices in their country, was also detained.
“We believe the suspects have been operating for years and are linked to seven cases,” said SAC Mohd Adnan. “We are still tracking other accomplices who may still be holding on to the booty.”
