KUALA LUMPUR: Incensed because they were not given “VIP numbers”, two men who made a living by selling special vehicle registration plates and phone numbers caused a stir and splashed yellow paint at Menara Maxis here.
The two were arrested by police after the incident at noon at the Maxis Centre in Jalan Ampang here yesterday.
The two started acting up after they were refused the numbers that they had demanded.
City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad said the men, aged 45 and 57, went to the centre last Saturday and demanded for 10 “VIP numbers”.
They became annoyed when given only two numbers and told the staff there that they would return for the rest.
“They told the staff that if they did not get the rest of the numbers that they had asked for, they would cause trouble when they returned on Tuesday,” he said.
SAC Zainuddin said the men returned yesterday and became aggressive when they still did not get the numbers they had asked for.
They started shouting at the staff manning the service counters and later called up 10 others to cause a stir at the lobby.
SAC Zainuddin said the two then splashed yellow paint at the lobby and the commotion continued before police arrived at the scene.
He added that the two had no criminal record.
SAC Zainuddin said the men were arrested for criminal intimidation and committing mischief.
