SEREMBAN: A 28-year-old man was sentenced by the Sessions Court today to 20 years' jail and 20 strokes of the rotan for raping his 16-year-old stepdaughter on two occasions earlier this year.
Judge Datuk Jagjit Bad Singh said the court had found that the accused, a contractor, had deliberately committed the acts.
"It is clear that the accused took advantage of his step-daughter to satisfy his desire,” he said.
"The accused, who is married the victim's mother, should have protected her even though he was a step father."
Ruling that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, Jagjit sentenced the accused to 20 years’ jail and 10 strokes of the rotan for each count, the jail terms to run concurrently.
The accused was alleged to have raped the girl at a house in Taman Andalas, Mantin, at 8am on March 13 and again at a house in Kampung Chalet, Nilai, about 8am on June 6.
Deputy Public Procecutor Muhamad Abu Hassan Ramli prosecuted.
Counsel S Karthigesan in mitigation asked for a reduced sentence as the accused was pious and had repented.
It was also his first offence.
