Zahid throws Sabah challenge to Nazri

KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has issued fellow minister Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz a challenge – “come to Sabah without your bodyguards and see how safe it is”.
Dr Ahmad Zahid was responding to the Tourism and Culture Minister’s remark that Sabah was unsafe to visit as long as cross-border kidnapping cases remain unsolved.
Nazri said the extended curfews there only showed that the state was still under threat, adding that he would not visit the state without his bodyguards.
Dr Ahmad Zahid, however, begged to differ.
Sabah, he said, was safer now after a senior police officer was appointed to lead the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom).
To prove his point, he has invited Nazri to accompany him on a visit to the state.
“I would like to invite (Nazri) to accompany me to the state without bodyguards so he can see (the situation) for himself,” said the Home Minister.
Speaking to the press at the Umno General Assembly here yesterday, Dr Ahmad Zahid said the recent extended two-week curfew had reinforced security in some parts of the state particularly in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone).
