KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — The nominal GDP per person in Malaysia was higher than the world average but lower than Brazil, Argentina and Turkey, according to a report by Khazanah Research Institute (KRiS).
In the book titled “State of Households Report”, KRiS said Malaysia’s nominal GDP was US$10,432 (RM33,382) per person, compared to the world average of USD 10,318.
Argentina, Brazil and Turkey’s respective nominal GDP per person was US$11,573, US$11,340 and US$10,666.
The KRiS report also found that the nominal GDP per person in Kuala Lumpur in 2012 (US$24,240) was higher than South Korea (US$22,590) but lower than Singapore (US$53,519).
“We are now a high middle income country, with GDP per person above Mexico and the world average, and not far below Turkey and Brazil,” KRiS managing director Datuk Charon Mokhzani said at the book launch here.
