Suspect escapes from police truck while being led to court

GEORGE TOWN, June 17 — A 40-year-old suspect managed to break open his handcuffs to escape from police truck on its way to the Penang court complex this morning.
It is believed that the suspect jumped off the police truck and ran away before police could react.
The suspect, from Bagan Jermal in Butterworth, was detained about four days ago for suspicion on drug possession.
He was to be charged at the magistrate’s court today before his escape.
The man is about 170cm in height, of a slight built and was wearing a grey t-shirt and dark pants.
George Town district police chief ACP Mior Farid Al-Athrash confirmed the incident and said he will hold a press conference on theincident  soon.
The police has yet to trace the suspect and urged the public to call them if they have any information or have seen the suspect.
