PETALING JAYA: A 31-year-old florist who had gone to a temple in Puchong near here to pray for safe delivery of his first born was gunned down in front of the temple.
An assailant, dressed in black, fired a shot at A. Regen, who was walking out of the temple with his mother, nephew and another relative on Friday.
After Regen fell to the ground, the assassin came closer to fire another shot at his head before fleeing the scene.
Regen’s wife Bavani was warded at the hospital and due deliver their first child.
Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Razimi Ahmad said Regen was walking to his car when he was shot.
The assailant, he added, was believed to have fired four shots at Regen, three of which hit him on his leg, chest and head.
“We are still investigating the motive for the shooting,” he told reporters at the scene.
Witnesses were unable to see or identify the assailant as it happened quickly, said ACP Razimi, who added that the assailant could have fled on foot towards a highway nearby.
Regen’s body was sent to Serdang Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Bavani has safely delivered a baby boy at a private hospital a day after her husband’s murder.
According to Regen’s brother-in-law S. Ramalingam, Regen was a hardworking, kind-hearted and loving husband.
“It is very unfortunate for us to lose him. He was so happy that he was finally going to meet his son,” said Ramalingam, who added that Bavani remained distraught despite the birth of her son.
