Red Carpet at I-City to be refurbished at cost of RM2mil After Arson

Red Carpet at I-City to be refurbished at cost of RM2mil

SHAH ALAM: The Red Carpet @ I-City that was recently caught on fire will be refurbished within two months with an estimated cost of RM2mil.
I-Berhad deputy chairman Datuk Eu Hong Chew, who revealed this, also said that the interactive wax museum will contained more figurines and promised it would be a better experience for tourists.
"It is a sad incident but we will do whatever it takes to refurbish the place and incorporate more wax figures within two months," he said, adding that the cost of doing so was not an issue.
Two of the six sections of the Red Carpet were destroyed in a fire believed to be set by three men in an act of sabotage last Wednesday.
The sections included the world icons and celebrities.
The 10 wax figures destroyed are the Queen of Elizabeth, Vladimir Putin, Mao Zedong, Barack Obama, Yasser Arafat, Nelson Mandela, Jackie Chan, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Kate Middleton and Prince William.
At a media briefing on Tuesday, several video clips were shown from CCTV recordings on the arsonists torching the wax figures.
"It was definitely an act of sabotage as the arsonists knew what chemicals to use to torch the wax figures," Eu said, adding that figures could not be torched easily without the right chemicals.
Eu, who did not state the chemical used for the fire, said he left the investigation to the police and fire and rescue team to do the necessary.
According to I-City information manager Tang Soke Ching, each wax figures cost at least thousands of ringgit.
"It cost almost RM100,000 to make the wax figure of the Queen (Elizabeth)," she said.
Currently, she said about 15 wax figures are displayed at the ground floor of the building for public viewing.
"The entrance fee is now RM5 as compared to RM35 for Mykad holders on normal time," she said.
Selangor Tourism director Arshad Mustapa, who was also present at the media briefing, said he was sure I-City was able to refurbish the place in less than two months.
"The tourism ministry has arranged for two major events to take place here in April and I am sure it will kick-off smoothly," he said.
