Only One MCA Name

KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA has submitted only one name as the candidate for the March 23 Kajang by-election to Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak amid speculation that the candidate is the party's vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.
MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, when contacted today, confirmed that he had submitted the name of the candidate to Najib on Monday.
Asked if the candidate is Chew, Liow replied: "Just leave it to the prime minister to announce it."
Liow said the party had considered five or six people, including Chew, as a possible candidate for the by-election.
"We have already finalised the potential candidate after conducting an opinion poll on several aspects, including the choice of our candidate in Kajang," he said.
He added that the party has also submitted the result of an opinion poll to Najib.

It was earlier reported that the opinion poll showed that Chew, a former deputy women, family and community minister, was the most favourable candidate for the party.
