Kajang by-election: Majority of constituents in favour of polls, survey reveals

PETALING JAYA: Nearly 60% of the Kajang constituents are in favour of the upcoming by-election, according to a recent survey conducted by UMcedel (Universiti Malaya Centre of Democracy and Elections).
In a survey involving 576 respondents across 16 voting districts conducted on Feb 14 and 15, 56% of respondents felt that the by-election was necessary with 32% saying no while the rest remained uncertain.
UMcedel director Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Redzuan Othman said the survey also revealed that 53% of the respondents felt that the by-election was not a waste of public funds.
“However 59% of the respondents agree that the by-election was being held to pave the way for Pakatan Rakyat leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to become Selangor Mentri Besar,” he told reporters at Universiti Malaya’s Literature and Social Sciences faculty, here, Thursday.
Mohammad Redzuan also highlighted that the approval over the issue was consistent among the three major ethnic groups with the highest being the Chinese respondents at 68%, while the Indians and Malays polled following at 62% and 50% respectively.
