Imposter Datuk nabbed for assaulting three men

KUALA LUMPUR: A man who posed as a “Datuk” and claimed to be friends with high-ranking police officials has been nabbed after allegedly abducting and beating three men, including a Hong Kong national.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad said the victims claimed they were threatened with a gun and also beaten with a truncheon by the 26-year-old self-proclaimed “Datuk”, who was allegedly high on drugs.
He said the three victims claimed to have met the suspect at around 4am on Jan 28.
“Later, while the three victims were walking along Changkat Thambi Dollah at about 5am, the man approached them and pulled them into a Mercedes Benz and Toyota Alphard,” said ACP Zainuddin yesterday.
ACP Zainuddin added that the victims claimed they were then brought to a police station in Ampang by the suspect, who accused them of having ecstasy pills on them.
He added that no drugs were found on the victims and they were released but they were “caught” again by the “Datuk” upon their release.
“They claimed they were then brought to the suspect’s office where they were beaten with a truncheon,” he said, adding that the suspect also showed the victims photos of himself with several high-ranking officials including from the police and other VIPs, and claimed he was friends with them.
ACP Zainuddin said the victims managed to escape and lodged a report at the Pudu police station following the incident.
Their abductor was then arrested in a restaurant in Jalan Cheras here at about 10.30pm on Jan 31.
Police also seized pictures of the suspect taken together with high-ranking police officials, VIPs, and fake documents including name cards with the title “Datuk”.
