KUALA LUMPUR: Facebook’s 10th anniversary present for its users in the form of a personalised video clip has many users beaming with joy.
The customised slideshow called Facebook movie captures images posted by account holders from the day they first joined the portal, combined with other significant moments found in photos that were shared, proved to be a refreshing walk down the memory lane.
“I got misty eyed when I saw the recollection of so many beautiful incidents. It was hilarious to look back and laugh about my fashion sense then, especially hairstyles. Thank goodness, I never repeated any of them,” said Claudia Lye, 18, a musician from Petaling Jaya.
The slides are accompanied by a background soundtrack which ends with the a giant Facebook thumbs-up.
“It brings back memories which were meaningful as I had never kept track of them. The ‘most liked’ photos feature is pretty sweet,” said Sean Tiah, 21, a student a Help University.
Tiah, a business student from Taman Tun Dr Ismail here, has been using Facebook for four years, revealed that he was thrilled to catch a glimpse of his friends’ old and funky photos.
For Immanuel Leon, 22, there was a slight tug at the heartstrings when the Taylors University finance student saw his Facebook movie.
“It was awkward to watch as they were mostly pictures of my ex-girlfriends. Therefore, I never shared it on my timeline,” said the Sarawakian with a sigh.
Thankfully, nostalgia proved to be a positive experience for Jeslinda Paul, 22, an accountancy student from Sunway University.
“The first things that came to mind for me were sweet, nostalgic and memorable. Loving how this marks my fifth year using Facebook,” she said.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had also dedicated a few words on his own timeline to mark the special occasion.
“I always thought this was important, giving people the power to share and stay connected, empowering people to build their own communities themselves.
“That’s why I’m even more excited about the next 10 years than the last. Thank you for letting me be a part of this journey.”
