PUTRAJAYA: Former research assistant to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Muhammed Yusoff Rawther has been arrested since last Friday, after police are believed to have found two fake pistols and suspected drug substances in the vehicle he was traveling in.

The matter was confirmed by his lawyer, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali on Wednesday.

According to him, Muhammed Yusoff has clearly stated to the authorities that the goods do not belong to him and that he has nothing to do with the prohibited goods.

"Urine screening test was also negative," he said on Wednesday.

Muhammad Rafique said that his client had also stated in the recorded conversation that the item was placed in his car as a trap by the party who allegedly had a grudge or enmity with him.

"Those whom Muhammed Yusoff is referring to have already been provided with the names and connections of those nominees with the country's political leadership.

"The police have also been requested by Muhammed Yusoff and the lawyer to be allowed to file a police report on this matter.

"Related letters have already been sent," said Muhammad Rafique.

He explained that the need to make the police report is for Muhammed Yusoff's defense to be advanced as early as possible so that it is not labeled an ' afterthought ' or fabricated.

"Muhammed Yusoff, who is currently in remand custody since last Friday, also expressed concern about him, not to mention that his civil cases related to influential individuals are still ongoing.

"These cases have their own sensitivity.

"Muhammed Yusoff's family stands firmly in support of him and hopes that the PDRM will be professional in carrying out their duties," he said.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court previously set the full hearing regarding Muhammed Yusoff's suit against Anwar regarding alleged sexual assault against him to begin on June 16 next year.

On 14 July 2021, Muhammed Yusoff filed a suit claiming that he had sexually assaulted the PKR President in October 2018, a few days before Anwar won the Port Dickson by-election.

He further claimed that he suffered serious physical, psychological and social trauma as a result of the incident, and demanded special, general, aggravated and exemplary damages as well as benefits, costs and other relief.
