KUALA LUMPUR: Three men each from Sierra Leone and Liberia pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to the charge of robbing a Japanese businessman of US$30,000 in cash last month.

Patrick Samba, 34, and Ibrahim Jalloh, 36, each a citizen of Sierra Leone and Douglas Daniel Devine, 38, a citizen of Liberia were charged together with two other individuals for committing a gang robbery against Hiroyuki Azuma, 58, by robbing US$30,000 in cash (RM129 ,945) belonging to the victim.

The act was allegedly carried out in front of a restaurant in a shopping center in Brickfields here at 1.30pm, 9 August last.

All the accused were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine or whipping, if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Izalina Abdullah did not propose bail as all the accused did not have valid travel documents.

However, lawyer AR Palaya who represented the three accused said his clients had valid travel documents and they were kept by their respective agents or at the college where they studied.

"Please the court set a short date for me to verify their travel documents before making an appeal regarding bail," said the lawyer.

Judge Egusra Ali did not allow any bail and fixed this 25 September for mention of the case.
