KANGAR: Police confirmed the death of former Moto 3 and National Cup Prix rider, Elly Idzlianizar Elias, 40, due to severe injuries from being slashed and stabbed after being involved in a fight in Kangar in an incident between 9 and 10 pm last Tuesday.

In that incident, the victim is believed to have gone to the house of a 51-year-old man in Taman Behor Gonchar Jaya, Jalan Dato Ali, Kangar in a state of anger before a fight broke out.

Kangar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said, his party received information at around 11.13pm that there had been a fight at the housing estate.

"Based on the information we received, there was a fight involving four individuals, including the victim, at the entrance to the intersection of Taman Behor Gonchar Jaya.

"When the police arrived at the scene, it was found that the victim and three other individuals involved in the fight had already been taken to Tuanku Fauziah Hospital, Kangar to receive treatment.

"However, the victim (Elly Idzlianizar) died at around 12.30 midnight yesterday (Wednesday) as a result of suffering serious injuries to several parts of the body and hands believed to have been cut with a sharp weapon," he said at a press conference at the Kangar District Police Headquarters (IPD) , here on Thursday

He said, following that, police from the Kangar IPD Criminal Investigation Division assisted by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Perlis Police Contingent Headquarters arrested three men aged between 28 and 51 who were believed to be involved in the fight at several separate locations around Kangar.

"During the arrest, we also seized a mobile phone, a digital video recorder and a 112-centimeter (cm) samurai sword believed to have been used in the fight.

"Further investigation found that the victim died due to around 10 to 12 cuts on the body where one cut on the right hand, three on the left hand and seven to eight cuts on the back of the victim's body.

"In fact, the post-mortem results conducted at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar also found that the victim died due to severe bleeding, including the blood vessel in the victim's hand that was severely injured, causing death," he said.

He said that the initial police investigation found that the incident started when the victim tried to find the 51-year-old main suspect at his residence in the housing estate.

"The victim arrived at the suspect's house in a blue Proton Iriz car, but the suspect was not at home and only his son and wife were there.

"The victim left but ran into the suspect at the entrance of the housing estate intersection and a fight broke out involving two other men including the first suspect's 31-year-old son.

"We understand that the victim and the suspect know each other and often deal with each other about things that are not necessary, leading to such a fight. However, so far, the motive and cause of the fight is still being investigated," he said.

Yusharifuddin said that his party also investigated whether there were elements of secret societies and gangsterism in the fight because the suspect had various past criminal records.

"From the urine test screening conducted, only the main suspect tested positive for drugs and had nine previous criminal records involving attempted murder and drugs.

"The second suspect is 28 years old and works as a laborer in Arau and has 12 criminal records involving various crimes and drugs while the third suspect who is 31 years old and is also the suspect's son has five past records involving various crimes and drugs," he said.

The suspect is now remanded until September 17 to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code while Manga's body was safely buried at the Utan Aji Cemetery, Kangar yesterday.
