BALIK PALAU: Police are looking for two men after a video showed them attacking a dog that had fallen into a drain since Sunday.

South West District Police Chief, Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal said, a video clip and an article titled 'It is not enough to be hit by a motorcycle, an innocent dog is tortured to death by two criminals' seemed to have gone viral on social media at 6pm, Sunday.

According to him, through the video, there are two men attacking something with a stick in the bush.


"The incident was witnessed by a witness and he managed to record the actions of the two suspects using a mobile phone.

"According to the witness, he saw two unknown local men suspected to be living near the scene of the incident attacking a dog that had fallen into a drain on the side of the road.

"After recording, he continued to send the recording of the incident to his friend who lives in Petaling Jaya, Selangor before it was uploaded and spread through a Twitter account called 'Syhmiee'," he said in a statement on Sunday.

Kamarul Rizal said, following that, a report was made by a police member for investigation and further action after watching the video clip.

"Preliminary investigations found that the incident happened at 8.38pm on July 8 in Kampung Telok Tempoyak in Batu Maung, Bayan Lepas.

"The police are now trying to track down the two suspects involved for further investigation.

"The police have opened an investigation paper regarding the incident and the case is being investigated in accordance with Section 29(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or a maximum of three years' imprisonment or both if convicted," he said.

He added that the case was also investigated in accordance with Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act which provides for a fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year or both.

"The police will take strict action against those who abuse or beat animals without a reasonable reason.

"We also remind the public not to transmit the video," he said.
