KUALA LUMPUR: Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil today ordered that the organization of the Good Vibes Festival 2023, which is still left until tomorrow, be canceled immediately.
Through a post on Facebook today, he said the Unity Government's stance is clear and will not compromise against any party that challenges, disparages and violates Malaysian laws.
"In that regard, I have also urged the organizers to identify a compensation mechanism for ticket buyers.
"The government is always committed to supporting the development of the creative industry and freedom of expression.
"However, don't ever touch the sensitivities of the community, especially those that are against local culture and manners," he said.
Today, Fahmi called the organizer of the festival, which is Future Sound Asia, to explain the actions and very rude statements displayed by the artist from the United Kingdom "The 1975" in Sepang, last night.
The media reported that The 1975's performance at the Good Vibes Festival 2023 was stopped after its vocalist Matty Healy showed various disrespectful actions in front of fans.
He was charged with holding a bottle of alcohol while on stage in addition to making a speech insulting Malaysian laws related to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT).
Meanwhile, the media reported that the organizers in a statement expressed regret that The 1975 group's performance had to be cut short for not complying with local performance guidelines.
