KUALA LUMPUR: The 1975 group's entry was not accepted by the Foreign Film Filming and Overseas Artist Performance Committee (JK-PUSPAL) last June, said Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil.

However, the organizers of GVF 2023 have made an appeal in July so that the group can be given the opportunity to perform with set conditions.

"Actually, I invited PUSPAL to give a briefing on what happened. Last June, PUSPAL informed them that they did not accept the participation of The 1975 band from the United Kingdom.

"But the organizers made an appeal in mid-July. In the appeal letter they also included a letter of undertaking from the group manager that they would be fully responsible, including the manager and the organiser, for the performance," he explained.

Fahmi stressed that the action taken with the cancellation of the Good Vibes Festival 2023 performance with two days left is a measure to prevent the same incident from happening again.

Fahmi added that he had also instructed JK-PUSPAL to issue a list of improvements regarding the application procedure.

"For me, most of the PUSPAL guidelines are clear, in an incident like this, there is a continuation, very barbaric and finally we have taken action as announced today to make sure (the incident) does not happen again.

"I have ordered PUSPAL to give me next week, a list of improvements or corrections, clarifications that need to be made on any application procedures and processes to ensure that this kind of problem does not happen again.

"JK-PUSPAL is chaired by the Chief Secretary of KKD, God willing he will prepare the latest draft for us to consider to avoid incidents like this from happening again," he said.

He said this when he was met by the media during the Ceremony for the Handover of Civil Community Certificates at the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya in the capital on Saturday.

Earlier, the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) made a police report against the vocalist of the group The 1975 and the organizer of the Good Vibes Festival performance for negligence and failure to comply with the conditions set by JK-PUSPAL.

The report was made through JK-PUSPAL following the ugly and disrespectful actions taken by the group's vocalist, Matty Healy, while performing at the Sepang International Circuit, last night.

During the concert, Healy was seen holding a bottle of wine on stage while performing a performance as well as spitting and engaging in impolite acts.

In fact, Healy also made a speech insulting the country's laws related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues before kissing The 1975's bass player, Ross McDonalds on stage.
