Acid Throwing incident, elderly woman arrested

GOMBAK: An elderly woman was arrested by the police in connection with an incident of throwing acid on a married couple resulting in the victim being injured in an incident at Laksamana Jaya Apartment, Batu Caves, here last week.
Acting Gombak District Police Chief Superintendent Noor Arifin Mohamad Nasir said the 60-year-old woman was arrested at Taman M Residence, Rawang, at about 4.20pm on Sunday.
"The suspect will be taken for remand application according to Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
"We are investigating this case according to Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury," he said in a statement here on Sunday.
Noor Arifin said, the section provides for a prison sentence of up to three years or with a fine or with whipping or any two of the punishments.
At the time of the incident, the 60-year-old victim and her husband, a 37-year-old foreigner, along with their son were getting into the elevator before an unknown woman came and splashed liquid believed to be acid on the victim and ran away.
Both victims screamed in pain and rushed out of the elevator to seek help from the public.
Previously, a closed circuit camera (CCTV) recording went viral showing a suspect standing near the victim while the family was waiting for the lift before splashing a liquid believed to be acid immediately after they entered the lift.
