Report lodged over Instagram post on King, Negaraku lyrics, Malaysian flag

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 31-- The Royal Malaysian Police confirmed receiving a report regarding the owner of an Instragram account, Bukan_Bang_Jago that was found to have insulted Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, the national anthem and the Malaysian flag.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the suspect had uploaded edited photos containing the face of Al-Sultan Abdullah on the Instagram account.
In addition, the national anthem Negaraku’s lyrics had been modified and the Malaysian flag, Jalur Gemilang contained a communist symbol.
“Investigations are being conducted by the Bukit Aman Classified Criminal Investigation Unit, Prosecution and Law Division (D5) under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said in a statement.
He said the public is urged to use social media wisely and not to misuse the platform to annoy and disrupt the nation’s harmony.
“Stern action will be taken against any individual who deliberately disturbs the peace and public safety,” he said.
Edited photos bearing Al-Sultan Abdullah’s face, along with modified Negaraku lyrics and photos of the Malaysian flag containing a communist symbol went viral on Instagram today.
