JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 30 -- The police have yesterday arrested two local women following separate raids, in Bukit Indah and Gelang Patah, here, to assist investigations into illegal money lending or ‘Ah Long’ activities.

Johor Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief ACP Mohd Salleh Abdullah said the women, aged 19 and 28, were detained in Ops Vulture conducted around Bukit Indah, Gelang Patah and Ulu Tiram, here, from 8.30am yesterday.

“Police also seized three computers units, 236 mobile phones of various brands, modems and a time attendance machine, during the raid on a premises in Bukit Indah where the 28-year-old woman was arrested.

"From the items seized, police believe that the premises had been used as a call centre for illegal money lending services," he said in a statement today.

Mohd Salleh said the two women, believed to be working with the unlicenced money lending syndicate were being investigated under Section 5 (2) of the Moneylender’s Act 1951 and police were actively tracking down other syndicate members.

"We urge those with information on unlicenced money lending activities to contact Johor CID intelligence officer ASP Timmy Aheng at 019-7773728 or Johor Contingent Police Headquarters at 07-2254422," he said.
