KUANTAN, Aug 21 -- Three family members died in a crash involving two cars and a lorry at KM18 Jalan Bentong-Raub near Lurah Bilut, Bentong about 130 kilometres from here, today.
Bentong district police chief Supt Yusof Unis said in the 8.25 am incident, four others were injured, one in serious condition, while five were unhurt.
The dead identified as Norasmah Ismail, 55, and her siblings Masitah, 54, and Muslaini, 48, from Melaka, were travelling with three other family members in a Proton Exora driven by a 21-year-old man.
“It is learned that the family was heading towards Kelantan from Shah Alam, Selangor and the incident, was believed to have occurred when the driver tried to avoid hitting the Proton Saga car which had stopped suddenly in front of him, due to roadworks ahead.
“The Proton Exora hit the rear of the Proton Saga before it entered the opposite road and collided with a lorry,” he said when contacted here today.
Yusof said the Proton Exora driver was rushed to Raub Hospital while the other three including a child, received treatment at the Bentong Hospital.
The Proton Saga driver and his three family members, as well as the 37-year-old truck driver, escaped injuries, he added.
