KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says that his political secretary can still serve despite being implicated in corruption charges involving Tan Sri Isa Abdul Samad.

“It is just an accusation. Whether right or wrong, we wouldn’t know,” he said.

"A person could still serve unless convicted," he told reporters after launching the 20th anniversary celebration of the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) and Scholar's Library on Friday (Dec 14).

Dr Mahathir was asked to comment on his political secretary Muhammad Zahid Md Arip, who was Isa's former special officer.

Muhammad Zahid was mentioned in nine out of the 10 corruption charges levelled against the former Felda chairman earlier Friday.

According to the charge sheet, Muhammad Zahid acted the middleman between Gagasan Abadi Properties Sdn Bhd director Ikhwan Zaidel and Isa.

The bribes were allegedly meant to facilitate Felda's purchase of the Merdeka Hotel & Suites.

The offences were allegedly committed between July 21, 2014 and Dec 11, 2015.

It was reported that Muhammad Zahid was arrested by the MACC in August 2017 over the hotel deal and was remanded for eight days.

He was appointed Dr Mahathir's political secretary on May 30.
