PETALING JAYA, April 17 —
The #UndiRabu crowdfunding initiative set up by Malaysians on Twitter to help their fellow Malaysians go home to vote has collected more than RM140,000 in just a week.
The group announced that the campaign that started April 11 saw donors giving a total of RM141,897.21 as at 10pm yesterday, while it had distributed RM45,050 of the funds to subsidise the travel plans of voters at the same time.
#UndiRabu also announced on Twitter its second round of applications for financial
aid, as well as contributions to the fund.
The initiative is part of the #PulangMengundi movement that has popped up on
several social media platforms with offers to subsidise travel expenses.
The group is offering to subsidise up to RM200 for flights to East Malaysia.
In addition, those travelling within the peninsula to vote will get RM100 if they use
the train, while those taking the bus or plan to drive home will get RM50 to cover
their fare and toll expenses.
#PulangMengundi, meanwhile, announced that #UndiRabu and a carpooling initiative
for those seeking transport on polling day, #CarPoolGE14, are now accessible to all
through the website, www.PulangMengundi.com, as a one-stop information platform.
