KUALA LUMPUR: Persatuan Sahabat Ulul Amri Malaysia (PSUAM) and two other non-governmental organisations have lodged police reports over a video which they claimed defamed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

PSUAM president Syed Imran Syed Abdul Aziz lodged the report on behalf of the organisation at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

Speaking to reporters after lodging the report, he said the video was uploaded onto the Internet by a woman and then spread on social media.

“Among the things said about the prime minister is that he wants to get rid of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and become president of Malaysia. We believe this defamatory video was made with the intention of spreading fear among the people and threaten public order.”

Syed Imran said his report also mentioned several Facebook accounts which featured content meant to insult Najib.

“We urge police to immediately investigate these Facebook accounts. Perhaps drastic action such as barring Facebook needs to also be considered as there are too many defamatory statements being uploaded there.

“We don’t want to have to lodge police reports every time one of our leaders is insulted on Facebook, which is why we are suggesting this, at least temporarily,” he said. © New Straits Times
