SIBU: A 42-year-old teacher has been charged with sodomising a former student at a budget hotel in Mukah.
Bobby Sebli was alleged to have committed the offence on the 13-year-old victim between 11am and noon on May 14.
The charge provides for a jail sentence of between five and 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
The charge was read out before Mukah district officer Safri Saili, who was acting as the judge, at the Mukah Sessions Court on Friday.
The accused was arrested on June 15 at a rural school in Kapit where he was teaching, following a report by the victim.
No plea was recorded from the accused who was released on a bail of RM10,000 with two sureties. He was also ordered not to meet or call the victim and to report to the police once in two weeks.
The case will be mentioned again on July 25.
