KUALA LUMPUR: Every year when Aidilfitri comes, a row of lemang stalls by the roadside along the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) in Hulu Klang, here, attracts the attention of road users.

Checks by Bernama found that the lemang operators like ‘Pak Ali Lemang Asli’, ‘Pak Dean Lemang Tradisi’ and ‘Pak Ya’, were busy attending to customers who choose the lemang sold here due to the affordable prices ranging between RM12 to RM20 a piece.

“Last year, we gained a profit of RM50,000 throughout Ramadan and Aidilfitri, and based on the sales were have recorded, we are confident that it will increase,” said the owner of the Pak Ali Lemang Asli stall, Badriah Najib, 38.

Making a gross profit around RM1,000 a day, Badriah said there was an increase in the demand for delicacy this year, with nearly 300 lemang sold every day during the last 10 days of Ramadan compared to last year (100 to 150 pieces).

She said, due to the high demand, she had opened her stall for 24 hours from two days ago and would continue until the second week of Hari Raya.

Badriah said the secret behind her tasty lemang was her family recipe, and the use of quality coconut milk and glutinous rice.

Rohani Abd Rashid, 42, who lives in Selayang, near here, said this was her first time buying lemang at Badriah's stall following positive remarks from her friends and couldn't wait to taste it.

Meanwhile, the daughter of the owner of the Pak Dean Lemang Tradisi stall, Suhaini Saharuddin, 36, said she would usually get a mass flux of customers from the last day of Ramadan to the second day of Hari Raya and could sell 2,000 to 3,000 pieces within that period.

“I can sell around 7,000 lemang throughout Ramadan and Aidilfitri and make a profit of about RM15,000. Besides that, people also like to buy my mother's chicken and beef rendang,” said Suhaini who has been selling the traditional delicacy for 25 years every Ramadan and Aidilfitri. –BERNAMA
