Melaka police chief: SOP adhered to when checking foreigners
BY R.S.N.MURALI
MELAKA: The police will stick to its standard operating procedure when conducting checks on illegal immigrants, says state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan (pic).
DCP Abdul Jalil said that state policemen are aware that any checks on foreigners should be done jointly with officers from the Immigration Department.
He was asked to comment on an incident where Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar caught three of his men red-handed doing a check on a foreigner at a roundabout in Semenyih, Selangor on Tuesday.
It was reported that the three policemen were punished by being ordered to march in full gear for two hours and transferred out of the Semenyih police station for not complying with the standard operating procedure.
"We have clearly stated that such checks should be conducted with officers from the relevant enforcement agencies present, and we have no reports yet about my men stopping illegal immigrants on the roadside while on patrol," said DCP Abdul Jalil on Thursday.
