JOHOR BARU: A two-year-old toddler endured an hour of pain when his fingers were stuck in an escalator comb plate at a shopping mall here today.
The 2.28pm incident occurred when the toddler fell while the family were on the escalator going down from the third floor of a departmental store.
Johor Baru Fire and Rescue station chief, Khairul Azhar Abd Aziz said an 11-member team were dispatched to the location after receiving a distress call.
“The mother told us when the child fell; his index and middle fingers were caught between the escalator’s comb plates. He was screaming in pain and bleeding. By the time firemen arrived, maintenance crew had stopped the escalator and they had unfastened the comb plate with the boy’s fingers still stuck to it.
“Considering the situation that the boy was in, we decided to rush him to hospital with the comb plates still attached to him,” said Khairul.
Medical personnel and firemen were able to release the toddler’s fingers from the comb plate at about 3.30pm. The boy is reported to be in stable condition
