ALOR SETAR: Tabung Haji (TH) received about 85,000 appeals, which is almost three times the quota of 31,600 pilgrims allocated by the Saudi Arabian government to Malaysia this year.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said, the Malaysian Government sincerely hopes that the Government of Saudi Arabia will consider the application for an additional 10,000 Hajj quotas.
"We submitted an official application to the Saudi Arabian Government last month.
"Last night (yesterday) I also sent a message to my counterpart, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr Taw-fig Fawzan Al-Rabiah, to get an update on the appeal.
"I am confident that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will give due consideration to our request," he said.
He said this when met after presenting food basket donations to 100 underprivileged families in Kuala Sungai, here, yesterday
The programme was organised by the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) Kedah Branch in collaboration with Yayasan Taqwa, under the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP).
Mohd Na'im said the appeals received would be considered, including filling the vacancies of depositors who rejected offers due to health or other reasons.
