Cops nab ‘kidnapped’ nurse and her hubby
JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested the couple involved in the alleged kidnapping of a staff nurse that went viral on WhatsApp here.
Johor Police Chief Comm Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said police arrested the woman and her 40-year-old former fiancé in Kedah at around 9.30pm on Wednesday.
"We have recorded their statements and according to the woman, she was not kidnapped but instead went off to Thailand with her former fiancé to get married," he said.
He added that she had been staying at her husband’s stepmother’s house in Pendang, Kedah since March 30.
"The couple was married on April 3 in Thailand," he said in a statement here on Thursday.
Comm Wan Ahmad said the victim’s father lodged a police report on March 31, a day after her sister told him that the woman had not returned home for two days.
He added that the nurse had taken off with the suspect owing to a family conflict.
The case was being investigated under Section 363 and 342 of the Penal Code for kidnapping and wrongful confinement, respectively.
According to the WhatsApp message from almost a week ago, two men had driven off with the woman in her car from Hospital Sultanah Aminah here.
