Suspected paedophile nabbed in Penang
GEORGE TOWN, Nov 12 — Police believe they have solved the abduction of an 11-year-old reported two weeks ago with the arrest of a 58-year-old suspected paedophile on Thursday.
While no official confirmation was forthcoming, Malay Mail reliably learnt the victim was sent for a medical examination to establish if he had been sexually abused.
With the arrest of the suspect, investigators are also now reviewing previous reports of child abductions and molestation.
On October 28, the child was on a motorcycle ridden by his father along Penang Bridge on their way from Sungai Pinang from Seberang Prai.
The motorcycle had a puncture at about 11.30pm and they pulled over to flag down passing motorists for assistance.
A passing motorcyclist pulled up and offered to give the child a lift while the father rode his motorcycle slowly.
“The suspect offered to send the victim to his home in Seberang Prai, while the father was to tailgate them,” a source disclosed.
However, the suspect had hidden agendas and tricked the victim.
He sped off towards the island and on reaching the Jalan Haji Ahmad Nor junction, gave the father the slip as his motorcycle was not fast enough with a punctured tyre.
“The father assumed his son will be dropped at home and only learnt otherwise when he reached home later,” the source said.
Panicked, the family mounted a search and alerted police.
A source close to investigations revealed police tracked down the suspect using the motorcycle registration number.
On October 29, the child was found abandoned at the Jalan Temenggung bus interchange in Taiping, Perak.
Investigations were classified as abduction and sodomy after the victim was interviewed by police.
On Thursday, police were able to track down the suspect and detained him here.
Prai Tengah police chief ACP Nik Ros Azham confirmed the incident, but declined to elaborate.
The suspect, who has a previous conviction, has been remanded to facilitate investigations.
