Nov 9 ― Malaysiakini staff were surprised this morning by a reticulated python at the news portal’s Petaling Jaya office, barely hours after the raid by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) last night.
The python, reported to be over 1.5m long, was caught alive by the Fire and Rescue Department.
“Security personnel from the PJ51 Business Park were quick to take action after they were informed about the python. They tied a rope to the python head and secured it to a wooden bench near the water feature.
“Twenty minutes later, a Fire Department team arrived to take the python away to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks,” Malaysiakini graphics editor Azlan Zamhari was quoted saying by the portal.
According to Azlan, who was the first to arrive at work, the snake was found by cleaners and cafeteria operator between the water feature in the office’s front porch at around 6.30am.
In February 2014, a “dead” duck was left at Malaysiakini’s previous office in Kuala Lumpur by vandals who splashed red paint on its signboard. It was later found to be alive, and was adopted by the staff.
