KUALA TERENGGANU: A quick-thinking driver narrowly escaped being crushed by a runaway crane in Bukit Tumbuh here.

Syukri Mohamad Ibrahim, 35, was in his Proton Wira when it was hit by the crane and pushed forward about 15m before coming to a halt.

As the crane pushed his car forward, Syukri managed to jump out and escape unhurt.

It is believed that the crane driver, 36, had suffered an epileptic seizure and lost control of his vehicle.

The crane driver was taken to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here for observation.

In another accident in Setiu yesterday, a woman was killed on the spot while four others were injured when two cars collided.

The deceased was identified as Shamsiah Abdullah, 55, who was in a car with three others at the time.

They were heading to Kelantan from Kuala Terengganu when the accident involving another car from the opposite direction took place at Jalan Siakap in Kampung Saujana, Setiu.

Two passengers from each car were sent to the hospital for treatment.
