Amar: Appointment an honour to minorities
KUALA LUMPUR: The newly-minted city police chief considers his appointment an honour to the ethnic minorities in Malaysia, especially Sikhs, who make up 0.16% of the country’s police force.
Comm Datuk Amar Singh (pic) said his appointment was testament to how the police were “colour-blind” when carrying out their duties as well as promoting their officers.
“This shows that our leadership does not discriminate against anyone, regardless of their race or background.
“This goes in accordance with the call made by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar,” he said at the handing over of duties ceremony yesterday.
Comm Amar was previously the city deputy police chief before being appointed the Federal CID deputy director (investigation/law).
“I was once the Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief, and now I’m returning as the police chief. I hope to receive the support and cooperation of our officers at the state police headquarters,” he said.
He commended his predecessor Comm Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa for bringing the crime index down by 17.6% during his tenure as the city police chief.
The ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters was also attended by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.
