Drugs, ammo found at man’s shop
GEORGE TOWN: An assortment of drugs worth about RM45,000 and 25 rounds of ammunition were discovered during the arrest of a 28-year-old man in Carnarvon Street here.
A police team stopped the man outside his shop following a tip-off at 9pm on Feb 29.
He then led them into the shop where a bag was found hidden in the ceiling.
Sources said the bag contained more than 500gm of syabu and 20gm of heroin together with the bullets.
“Police are now trying to determine what the man was doing with the bullets.
“They are also trying to determine if he has a firearm hidden somewhere.
“Three of his accomplices, aged between 26 and 37, were picked up the next day,” they said.
All of them tested positive for drugs and they had been arrested eight times before.
Cash amounting to about RM20,000, said to be the proceeds from drug sales, a Honda City, a motorcycle and two television sets were also seized under the Forfeiture of Properties Act.
Police have classified the case as drug trafficking under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries the mandatory death sentence, and possession of firearms without a licence under Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960.
