SHAH ALAM: A three-month old baby boy died on his first day at a nursery in the district.

District police chief Asst Comm Shafien Mamat said the 45-year-old accountant and his wife, in her 30s, had left the infant at the nursery on Tuesday.

“They wanted to test out the suitability of the day-care centre.

“The mother, who was on maternity leave, was supposed to start work on Wednesday,” he noted.

According to ACP Shafien, the mother had stopped by the nursery at about 3pm to feed her baby.

“The baby was still alright then,” he added.

ACP Shafien said the child suddenly lost consciousness in the evening before his father came by to pick him up from the nursery at 7pm.

“The father arrived at the centre and was informed that the baby had already been sent to a clinic.

“The medical personnel tried to resuscitate the child at the clinic, but to no avail.

“He was sent to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) where he was pronounced dead,” he explained.

According to ACP Shafien, the post-mortem results on Tuesday revealed that the child was uninjured and had not been experiencing internal problems.

“He may have choked to death from drinking milk.

“But we have to wait for the chemist report to ascertain the actual cause of death,” he added, while dismissing negligence or abuse in the baby’s death.

ACP Shafien said police have classified the case as Sudden Death (SDR) as no element of foul play was detected in the baby’s death.

He assured that police are still investigating the case.
