PETALING JAYA: There is no such thing as a "sarong policy" at Road Transport Department (JPJ) offices, says Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (pic).
The Transport Minister was referring to a post by Facebook user Suzanna G.L. Tan, who had claimed that she was forced to wear a sarong or be refused service at a JPJ branch.
“I regret that this dress code issue has taken place.
“There is no such thing as a 'sarong' policy. We should not impose unnecessary dress code guidelines on the public,” said Liow in a post on his official Facebook page on Tuesday.
He added that he had directed for an investigation to be conducted immediately into the issue and for action to be taken.
“There is an immediate need to review existing guidelines,” said Liow.
Facebook user Tan had earlier told The Star that she had been handed the sarong by officers at the Wangsa Maju JPJ office in Gombak on Monday.
“They just handed me this thing and I knew that if I made a fuss, I would not get my transfer form signed,” she said.
In her post, Tan had included a photograph of her wearing a blouse with a skirt that reached just above her knees.
