KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian have flocked to social media to mock the national football team’s heavy loss to Palestine by drawing parallels between the 6-0 scoreline and the much controversial Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Malaysia, playing at home against the war-torn county for a 2018 World Cup qualifying match put up an abysmal performance which put further gloom on the already bleak condition of the nation’s most popular sport.
Even if a defeat was not surprising to some fans, the huge margin of loss was indeed a cause for shock.
And in this time of despair, Malaysians jeered with ‘joy’, making fun of the scoreline and associating it with the GST.
“6-0 just like the 6% of GST does not make sense,” one user wrote.
“Actually the result is 0-0, but after included with GST, it became 6-0,” wrote another.
Other comments include:
“Even our football isn’t exempted from GST 6-0%?”
“Palestine doesn’t have GST, Malaysia as a country which implements it, is explaining it to them”
Some sections of people have stated that GST will help the nation in the long run. So if this is true, let’s just hope this 6-0 loss benefits our national football team too!
