Muhd Hafizuddin Mat Daud created history after winning Malaysia's first ever gold medal in pétanque at the Sea Games today. Hafizuddin, who won seven out the nine preliminary matches he played, held steady to defeat Cambodia's Thong Chhoeun 13-6 in the final at Padang.
He had earlier in the day beaten Laos' Phoudthala Keokannika 13-3 in the semi-finals.
Malaysia's previous best performance at the Sea Games was during the 2009 Laos edition where the squad won two silver and one bronze.
