KUALA LUMPUR: The police have completed its investigation on 1Malaysia Development Berhad, and are awaiting further instruction from the Attorney-General Chambers, revealed the Home Ministry in Parliament.
This was in reference to a police report lodged by former Batu Kawan Umno vice-chairman Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan.
“The police report lodged has been classified under Section 409 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust by an agent,” the ministry told Tony Pua (DAP-Petaling Jaya Utara) in a written reply.
It explained now that the investigation papers are with the Attorney General Chambers since Mar 9, the National Audit Department has been instructed by the Government to give priority on its probe on 1MDB.
“The department should be able to do their job in obtaining relevant documents freely without any obstruction so they could determine whether there are any fraud or misconduct elements in 1MDB management,” it said.
The ministry said the same priority should also be given to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
In his question, Pua had asked the Home Ministry to disclose the status of police investigation on 1MDB, which has accumulated debts of RM42bil.
However, his question on whether business tycoon Low Taek Jho (Jho Low) has been investigated for its alleged links to 1MDB, was not answered by the ministry.
