Meat stall owner in Kajang market wounded after being shot twice

KAJANG: A 50-year-old owner of a meat stall in Kajang market was wounded after a gunman fired two shots at him at around 6.30am on Monday.
District OCPD Asst Comm Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said that the victim, identified as Abd Ghani Abdullah had parked his Mercedes Benz at Metro Point and was walking to the marketplace when the gunman passed by him on a motorcycle.
The suspect then opened fire at Abd Ghani, the first shot hitting him on the left shoulder while the second shot barely missed his head and hitting him below the right ear.
ACP Ab Rashid said the motorcyclist sped away after the shooting and a passer-by who witnessed the incident contacted the police within minutes.
“Abd Ghani was rushed to Hospital Kajang for treatment and his condition has since stabilised,” he added.

ACP Ab Rashid said the businessman had no previous criminal record and that the case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for discharging a firearm with intent to cause death or hurt.
An employee working at the stall, V. Devarasa, said the attack baffled him because Abd Ghani was never the type to make enemies.
“He was awarded the title 'Datuk' about two to three years ago.
“He remained a humble man and requested to be known only as a business owner,” added the 60-year-old staff.
Devarasa said that Abd Ghani lived in Putrajaya with his wife and four children and would come as early as 5.30am to set up the stall.
“Everyone in the market heard the gunshots and rushed out to see what happened.
“I was shocked to see my boss lying unconscious on the ground behind the market,” he added.
According to Devarasa, the stall had been in business at the Kajang market for over 40 years.
