Karpal Singh’s final journey, thousands bid farewell
BY TAN SIN CHOW
GEORGE TOWN: Thousands of people lined the streets of Penang to send off the hearse carrying Karpal Singh on his last journey.
The casket, bearing the body of the “Tiger of Jelutong”, was draped with a carpet bearing an image of a Tiger before it was carried out from the Dewan Sri Pinang on Sunday.
Shouts of "Karpal Singh" from the public could be heard outside the building before a grand funeral procession took place.
The procession also made stops at several places dear to Karpal - the Penang High Court, his office in Green Hall, the Penang state assembly building, his alma mater St Xavier’s Institution and state DAP party headquarters in Rangoon Road - before making its way to the Batu Gantong Crematorium.
Earlier, DAP and Pakatan Rakyat leaders and other representatives of various associations and guilds paid their last respects to Karpal.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in his eulogy said the state government mourned his untimely and unexpected passing.
He said the state government honoured Karpal by celebrating his accomplishments and realising his aspirations for justice, integrity and freedom.
