RAUB: Furious at policemen who stopped her children from playing firecrackers, a woman did not only question their authority but also hurled abusive language towards the enforcement personnel during an incident here on Tuesday night.
However, the woman's rude behavior landed her in further trouble, when she was later detained and remanded at the district police station for preventing civil servants from discharging their duties.
The 8.30pm drama unfolded when the policemen, who were on their routine rounds at the housing settlement, spotted three youths - two male and a female - playing fireworks in front of a house
The policemen stopped and advised the youths that they could be punished under the law.
Suddenly, the woman in her 30s, believed to be the mother of one of the youths, stormed out from the house and began to raise her voice towards the policemen.
District police chief Superintendent Wan Mohd Samsudin Wan Osman said the woman was unsatisfied with the policemen's decision to stop the youths from playing firecrackers.
"She hurled insulting words but the policemen managed to calm her down. They also recovered several boxes containing various types of fireworks and the three youths were detained for possesing explosive materials, which is against the law," he said when contacted yesterday.
Wan Mohd Samsudin said the youths - all 13 years old - were investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957, which carries a RM10,000 fine or seven years' jail or both, before they were released on police bail.
The woman, who is remanded for four days will be investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants from carrying out their duties.
If convicted, she could be fined up to RM2,000 and jailed not more than two years, or both.
