Woman critically injured in hit-and-run accident

KUALA LUMPUR: Family members of Yap Mee Ling (pic) are praying for her swift recovery after a hit-and-run accident left the 48-year-old accounts executive with severe head injuries.
In the Friday incident, Mee Ling was walking to her office near Wisma Tun Sambanthan from Wisma Pahlawan in Jalan Sultan Sulaiman here around 6.45am when a car allegedly rammed into her.
Her sister Mee Kuen, 47, said the driver sped off after the incident, leaving her on the verge of death.
“We received a call from Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) around 8.45am alerting us about the incident,” she said.
The deputy manager of an insurance company where Mee Ling also works said her sister had undergone two surgeries since Friday, but was still in critical condition.
“We were told that she is suffering from multiple bleeding and a fractured skull,” she said when contacted yesterday.
The family had informed Mee Ling’s 76-year-old mother Lai Ah Lun about the accident but not the severity of Mee Ling’s injury yet.
“Our mother is a stroke patient and has a heart condition. I worry that her health may worsen if she were to know about my sister’s injuries,” said Mee Kuen.
The family hoped that witnesses could come forward and assist them in tracking down the driver.
