RTM cancels Chinese sitcom over alleged links to Teresa Kok video

   
PETALING JAYA: Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) has suspended the broadcast of88 Kopitiam, a Chinese-dialect programme, following allegations that one of its actors appeared in Seputeh MP Teresa Kok's Chinese New Year video.

In a statement released on Saturday, its director-general Datuk Norhyati Ismail said RTM would investigate any programme which actors were involved in activities that could tarnish the country’s image.
"RTM will not hesitate to take stern action against individuals involved in such activities," she said.
An actor involved in the 88 Kopitiam sitcom was alleged to have acted in Kok's video titled Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014 Video Clip, which drew flak from many Barisan politicians and Malay NGOs.
Norhyati said that RTM would be meeting with the 88 Kopitiam producer to ascertain the involvement of the actor in Kok's video.
"This is to ensure that no parties were wronged or used by irresponsible parties,"she said in the statement.
The sitcom, which airs on TV2 on Mondays, highlights issues affecting the Chinese community in Malaysia.
