KUALA LUMPUR: March 11 is the next date for mention for a divorce case involving PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar which was filed against her husband Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar.
The date was fixed by Syariah judge Ab Malek Awang after meeting lawyers in chamber at the Lower Syariah Court in Jalan Sri Hartamas Tuesday.
Counsel Normawaddah Ramli who acted for Nurul Izzah told reporters that they are in the midst of discussing the matter with hopes to resolve it amicably, but mutual divorce proceedings are still ongoing under Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984.
Nurul's husband, Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar, had arrived alone at 10.30am.
Nurul Izzah, 33, had sought to divorce 35-year-old Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar in the petition filed in December.
The Lower Syariah Court at Jalan Sri Hartamas had confirmed that Nurul Izzah, who is the eldest daughter of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, filed the petition under the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984.
The case, number 14001-055-0023-2014, was first mentioned before Syariah Judge Ab Malek Awang on Jan 21.
Nurul Izzah and Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar were married on May 9, 2003, and have a seven-year-old daughter and five-year-old son.
Earlier reports said the couple's family had persuaded them to reconcile.
March 11 is also nomination day for the Kajang by-election in which Nurul's father, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is contesting.
